Imagine teaching someone who’s grown up with this

October 16, 2012

In 10 years time, as a secondary school teacher I could well be teaching students who’ve been using iPhones since near-birth. I’m really not too sure how I feel about giving a six month old an iPhone to play with but I’m also aware that that’s largely irrelevant seeing as it’s going to happen anyway. I’d be interested in knowing what you think it’ll be like to teach that student/those students.

It is a scary thought. Hopefully school technology will have advanced to a point where we are using them as teaching tools everyday. It is the social side of things that are more concerning; the fact that by then students may have lost a lot of verbal and physical communication skills and have problems being away from their phones. Technology can be a fabulous tool to aid learning, especially with Maths but making sure the students realise they still need to abide by social rules whilst using these is my main concern.
